Google expands Instant Tethering support to more Chromebooks and Android phones

Google Chromebook Instant Tethering

Instant Tethering is a feature that was previously only available on Pixel and Nexus devices, but that's changing today.

Google says that it's bringing Instant Tethering to 15 new Chromebook models and more than 30 new phones. Expect the feature to grow even more in the future, as Google says it'll enable Instant Tethering for more Chromebooks and phones in the coming months.

With Instant Tethering, you can pair your Android phone to your Chromebook during a setup process and then get your Chromebook online with a single click. Once enabled, your Chromebook will alert you that you can get online with your phone's data connection if the Chromebook isn't connected to Wi-Fi. You can then tap the "Connect" button in the notification and begin surfing the web. Instant Tethering will automatically disconnect if it detects 10 minutes of no activity.
