Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor announced with increased performance, Quick Charge 4+

Another new Snapdragon has emerged.

Qualcomm today introduced the Snapdragon 712, its followup to the Snapdragon 710. The new Snapdragon 712 offers up to a 10 percent increase in performance compared to the Snapdragon 710.

Included with the Snapdragon 712 is an octa-core Kryo 360 CPU that's built on a 10nm process and offers clock speeds up to 2.3GHz (up from 2.2GHz on the 710). There's an Adreno 616 GPU in there, too, as well as a Hexagon 685 DSP. The Spectra 250 camera ISP in the Snapdragon 712 offers support for 10 bits of color depth and can capture and display 4K video. It can also use a feature call multi-frame noise reduction to take multiple photos and stitch them together to make a single high-quality shot.

Integrated into the Snapdragon 712 is the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, which offers support for 4G LTE features like 4x4 MIMO and License Assisted Access (LAA) to boost download speeds. Support for VoLTE and VoWiFi is included, too, as is 3x20MHz carrier aggregation, 256 QAM downloads, 64 QAM uploads, peak download speeds of 800Mbps, and dual SIM card support.

Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4+ technology is included with the Snapdragon 712 as well. With it, you can recharge your phone from 0 to 50 percent in 15 minutes. Other notable features include Bluetooth 5.0, support for NFC, Qualcomm TrueWireless StereoPlus, and Qualcomm aptX Classic and aptX HD support.

While the Snapdragon 712 isn't a huge jump over the Snapdragon 710, it is still an improved chipset that offers slightly improved performance over last year's chip. And hey, who doesn't love getting better performance? There's no word yet on when we'll begin to see phones with the Snapdragon 712 launch, but don't be surprised if they begin popping up sooner rather than later.
