iOS 12.1.4 update rolling out with fix for Group FaceTime vulnerability

Apple today released a new iOS update that brings with it a fix for the nasty Group FaceTime bug that recently emerged.

iOS 12.1.4 is now available for download. If you've got an iOS 12-compatible iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you can download the update over the air by going into Settings > General > Software Update.

Apple's release notes for the iOS 12.1.4 update only mention "important security updates", but the update does include a fix for a Group FaceTime vulnerability that could allow someone to spy on you. With this bug, a person could call you using FaceTime, then add themselves again to begin a Group FaceTime call. After doing so, the person was able to hear audio from you even though you didn't answer the call. The bug could also allow them to see your video if you pressed the side button on your phone to silence the call.

This is a pretty significant bug, and while Apple did disable the Group FaceTime servers shortly after the bug was publicized, it's good to see a fix finally rolling out. If you've got a compatible iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, grab the update to iOS 12.1.4 as soon as possible to ensure that you've got the fix for this nasty vulnerability.
