LG says G7 is 'on schedule', will be announced 'when the time is right'

LG G6 hands on video

Earlier this month, a report claimed that LG's smartphone team was ordered to halt its work on the G7 and start development from scratch. Now LG has come forward to officially deny that report.

LG says that stories that the G7 is delayed so that its design can be reevaluated are "inaccurate." The company adds that the follow-up to the G6 is "on schedule" and that its release date is being decided on. LG will announce that date "when the time is right."

Here's LG's full statement to Engadget:

"Some stories have reported that LG's mobile division is delaying the release of the G7 in order to reevaluate its performance and design. This is inaccurate. Preparations for the launch of the G6's successor are on schedule.

"LG intends to focus on creating products that will result in meaningful results rather than launching new products on a schedule based solely on industry expectations and traditions. The release date for G7 is currently under consideration and will be announced when the time is right."

There's been a lot of talk about LG doing things differently with the G7. We've heard previously that LG wants to ditch the yearly smartphone release schedule and that it may rebrand its G series of flagship phones, so at this point it's unclear when the LG G7 will launch and what it'll be called whenever it does arrive. The LG G6 made its debut at MWC last year, but considering that we haven't heard anything from LG about a major announcement at this year's MWC, it's looking less and less likely that we'll see the G7 next month.
