Qualcomm announced two new additions to its family of Snapdragon processors, the Snapdragon 617 and Snapdragon 430. The chips will bring new features to inexpensive and volume handsets. Qualcomm said the Snapdragon 617, which will arrive before the end of the year, is an eight-core design relying on the the ARM Cortex A53 tuned to 1.8GHz and is paired with an Adreno 405 GPU. The 617 includes dual-ISPs to support 21-megapixel image sensors. The processor includes Qualcomm's X8 LTE radio, which has CAT 7 LTE with 2x20MHz carrier aggravation. It can reach download speeds up to 300Mbps and uploads approaching 100Mbps. The Snapdragon 430, which won't arrive until later in 2016, will also be available in an octa-core design based on the Cortex A53 clocked at 1.2GHz. It is paired with Qualcomm's Adreno 505 GPU and Hexagon 536 DSP and supports 1080p HD displays, video capture, and playback. The 430 includes Qualcomm's X6 LTE module with 2x10MHz carrier aggregation. The 430 can reach download speeds up to 150Mbps and uploads approaching 75Mbps. Both processors include Qualcomm's new QuickCharge 3.0, which powers up batteries four times faster than traditional USB.
