T-Mobile Device Unlock app officially lands in Google Play Store

T-Mobile Device Unlock Android app

Back in the middle of July, we got wind of an upcoming T-Mobile app called Device Unlock that would unlock your GSM device for use with another carrier. Fast-forward a few weeks later and that app is now officially available in the Play Store.

Device Unlock from T-Mobile recently went live in Google’s Play Store, allowing users to “request and apply a Mobile Device Unlock directly from the device.” The app currently only supports one device: the Samsung Galaxy Avant.

Typically when users want to unlock a phone, they need to call their carrier and request an unlock code, then dive deep into their phone’s settings and enter the code. This Device Unlock app makes the process much simpler, allowing a user to request and apply the unlock directly from the device.

Details on exactly how the app works are still up in the air, but it’s been suggested that it will offer both temporary and permanent unlocks. The former reportedly will unlock the device for 30 days, allowing users to do things like use their device during an overseas trip. Meanwhile, it’s said that a permanent unlock will require a user to pay off his or her device before being applied.
