After last month’s weird Android platform distribution numbers that saw Android 2.3 Gingerbread gaining market share, Google today posted its September numbers that show that things are returning to normal.
As it does at the start of every month, Google today posted the results of a survey that saw it track every Android device that accessed the Google Play Store in the 7-day period leading up to September 9. Android 4.4 KitKat jumped from 20.9 percent to 24.5 percent, Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean dropped from 54.2 percent to 53.8 percent and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich fell from 10.6 percent to 9.6 percent.
Looking at pre-4.0 devices, Android 2.3.3-2.3.7 Gingerbread dropped from 13.6 percent to 11.4 percent. Finally, Android 2.2 Froyo once again held steady at 0.7 percent.
We continue to see phones and tablets launch with Android 4.4 in tow and consumers upgrading to those products, and so it’s no surprise to see KitKat growing and all other versions falling. Expect that to continue in the coming months as more hardware hits the market with 4.4 since it’ll take manufacturers a little time to get Android L out to its hardware.
