Google's recent purchase of Fossil smartwatch technology spurred some speculation that Google may be planning to make its own wearable, and now those rumblings are about to get louder.
New job listings posted by Google may hint that the company is planning to build its own smartwatch. Google recently posted two job listings related to wearables, including a Vice President of Hardware Engineering for Wearables. Here's what that job entails:
"As the VP of Hardware Engineering for Wearables, you'll work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership team for Google Hardware and will be responsible for the design, development, and shipment of all Google's Wearable products. You will lead and enable the effectiveness of a large engineering organization primarily based in Mountain View to develop multiple next-generation wearable products simultaneously."
Google also posted a job listing for a Design Manager of the Wearables team in the Google Hardware Design organization. The person with this job will work with the Design Director and VP of Hardware Design to "guide and develop products for the consumer electronic industry with a focus on pushing the boundaries of what's possible while also guiding the team through the production phases with flawless execution."
To date, Google has only released one product that could fall under the Wearables category, which are its Pixel Buds wireless earbuds. The Pixel Buds originally launched in October 2017, and while it's possible that Google could be working on another pair, these job listings hint that Google could be prepping another wearable product or two. That's especially true with the line in the VP of Hardware Engineering job listing that reads "you'll work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership team for Google hardware and will be responsible for the design, development, and shipment of all Google's Wearable products."
What do you think of this news? Is Google planning to launch its own smartwatch or other wearable?
