Capacities of Apple's Smart Battery Cases for iPhone XS and XS Max revealed

iPhone XS Max Apple Smart Battery Case

Yesterday Apple officially launched its new Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. While Apple touted how much extra talk time and internet use the cases will get you, the company didn't reveal the size of the batteries in the cases. Now we know.

The Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS and XS Max both include a 1369mAh battery, as discovered by The Wirecutter's Nick Guy. That's smaller than the Smart Battery Cases that Apple made for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s, which were 2365mAh and 1877mAh, respectively. It's still unknown how large the battery in the iPhone XR's Smart Battery Case is, but that info will likely come out soon.

As a point of reference, we previously learned that the battery in the iPhone XS is a 2658mAh pack. The iPhone XS Max has a 3174mAh battery.

Apple says that its Smart Battery Case will get the iPhone XS an extra 13 hours of talk time, 9 hours of internet use, and 11 hours of video playback. Meanwhile, iPhone XS Max owners with a Smart Battery Case can expect an extra 12 hours of talk time, 7 hours of internet use, and 10 hours of video playback.

The Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS and XS Max are now available for $129 each. While they're batteries are smaller than previous Smart Battery Cases from Apple, they do give you a way to extend your phone's battery life while also adding some protection, all in an official solution from Apple. The new models also offer an improved design over Apple's previous Smart Battery Cases. If that sounds like it's up your alley, you can buy the Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max from Apple right now.
