Usually the major four U.S. carriers are bickering with one another about network coverage or speeds, but today they announced that they’re teaming up on a new project.
AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon are coming together to create the Mobile Authentication Taskforce. The goal of this group is to create a mobile authentication solution that will reduce mobile identity risks by analyzing data and activity patterns on a network to predict whether or not a user is who they say they are.
The GSMA says that it will work closely with this taskforce “to ensure this solution is aligned and interoperable with solutions deployed by operators.”
This mobile authentication solution will be offered to consumers and enterprise. The Mobile Authentication Taskforce aims to launch their solution in 2018.
Security is always a major issue, especially when so many consumers rely on their smartphones for their personal data, photos, and more. It’s good to see all four major U.S. carriers agreeing to come together to create a solution for consumers, and hopefully they’re able to come with an effective, secure offering.
