Six months after bringing back unlimited data, Verizon has announced that it’s making some major changes to its unlimited offering.
Starting tomorrow, August 23rd, Verizon’s unlimited plan will be split into two unlimited plans. Go Unlimited is the first, and it’ll cost $75 per month for one line, $65 per line per month for two lines, $50 per line per month for three lines, and $40 per line per month for four or more lines.
Go Unlimited offers unlimited 4G LTE data, but your data may be slowed during times of network congestion. Also included is 480p video streaming on phones and 720p streaming on tablets (tablet data is a $20 per month add-on) and unlimited mobile hotspot that tops out at 600Kbps.
Then there’s Beyond Unlimited. This plan starts at $85 per month for a single line and goes up to $80 per line per month for two lines, $60 per line per month for three lines, or $50 per line per month for four or more lines.
Beyond Unlimited customers get “premium unlimited 4G LTE data”, which means that data usage may be slowed after 22GB of usage and in times of network congestion. This plan also includes HD video streaming at 720p on smartphones and 1080p on tablets, and unlimited mobile hotspot (15GB of 4G LTE usage). Calling, texting, and data usage in Mexico and Canada is included as well.
Existing Verizon Unlimited customers can keep their plan, but they’ll be subject to the same rules as the Beyond Unlimited plan, meaning 720p video streaming and 15GB of 4G LTE mobile hotspot usage, an increase from the existing plan’s 10GB hotspot allotment.
Verizon’s also got a new Business Unlimited plan for business customers. It includes unlimited premium 4G LTE data, 480p video streaming, unlimited mobile hotspot (15GB of 4G LTE usage), and plan usage in Mexico and Canada. Business can get as many lines of this plan as they’d like.
So there are Verizon’s new unlimited rate plans. While the base Go Unlimited plan is a bit cheaper than Verizon’s current unlimited plan, you’re making a few trade-offs to get that cheaper price. Those include 480p video streaming instead of HD video streaming, the possibility of having your speeds slowed at any time the network is congested, and mobile hotspot that tops out at 600Kbps. Some customers may not care about tweaks to features like video streaming and hotspot, but this change is kind of a bummer for those who do.
These new plans roll out on August 23rd, so if you’d rather sign up for the current Verizon Unlimited plan, you can still do so, but you’ve only got today to do it.
