There may not be any huge, user-facing additions in the Android O Developer Preview 3 release that came out today, but there is one interesting tidbit of info contained within the update.
In the new Android O Dev Preview 3 update, Android O is listed as being version 8.0.0. That version number is listed both in the “About phone” screen as well as the system update page where you check for new updates.
The most recent version of Android Nougat is 7.1.2, so lots of folks have been wondering if Android O would be version 7.2 or 8.0. Now it looks like we have our answer. While this news doesn’t really have any effect on Android O itself, it does answer one of our lingering questions about the next major version of Android.
Now we just have to wait for Google to announce which “O” dessert will represent Android O. Any guesses?
