Apple today announced a new, larger tablet called the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro boasts a 12.9-inch screen with 2,723 by 2,048 resolution, totaling 5.2 million pixels. The display has a variable refresh rate in order to help save power. It supports a full-sized software keyboard, or, when in GarageBand, a larger piano keyboard. The iPad Pro is powered by the A9x processor, which is 1.8 times faster than the A8x it replaces, while also doubling the graphics performance. The tablet offers 10 hours of battery life. For the first time, the iPad Pro has four speakers with stereo sound and will balance the sound depending on how the device is being held. It puts out three times the audio volume of the iPad Air 2. The tablet is 6.9mm thick. Other features include an 8-megapixel iSight camera and an HD video user-facing camera. It will come in 802.11ac and LTE variants. It supports Apple is offering a new accessory for the iPad Pro, a cover that flips open to become a real keyboard similar to that of the Microsoft Surface Pro. The cover's keys use the same technology found in Apple's latest MacBook. A set of magnetic poles connect the keyboard to the iPad Pro, which also transfer data and turn off the software keyboard. Another accessory, the Apple Pencil, acts as a stylus for apps that require a finer point. The Pencil and iPad Pro work together to recognize light and harder presses. Apple claims low latency makes the Pencil feel like a "true writing instrument." The Pencil is battery powered and can charge via the iPad Pro's Lightning port. Pricing for the iPad Pro starts at $799 for a 32GB model with WiFi. The Apple Pencil costs $99, and the Smart Keyboard costs $169. All three reach stores in November.
