Take note, spec hounds, because Samsung has taken the wraps off of a fresh Exynos processor.
The Exynos 5430 is an octa-core processor that is built using a 20nm process, which Samsung says makes it “highly energy efficient.” It’s said that the Exynos 5430 offers up to 25 percent lower power consumption than its 28nm sibling.
Other features of the Exynos 5430 include four ARM Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.3GHz. The chipset uses ARM’s big.LITTLE Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP), a feature that allows each CPU core to be activated and deactivated as necessary. That means that all cores can be activated simultaneously if the workload calls for it and that other tasks can only activate the cores that they need.
Finally, Samsung says that the Exynos 5430 supports high-resolution displays such as 2560x1440 and 2560x1600. A leak from earlier today claimed that the Galaxy Note 4 could pack a 2560x1440 display and Exynos 5433 processor, so it’s possible that we could see a variant of Samsung’s new Exynos chip in its next flagship smartphone.
