The smartwatch wars heating up, they are. Before Android Wear and the rumored Apple iWatch really got going, Pebble and the MetaWatch were the talk of the wearable world. Both companies are making news again this week, with Pebble releasing limited edition colors of its smartwatch and Meta announcing a new premium piece of wrist wear.
MetaWatch has officially taken the wraps off of the Meta M1, its new premium smartwatch. The device is designed by Frank Nuovo and the Design Studio Nuovo, featuring stainless steel cases and different strap materials like stainless steel, leather and rubber.
The Meta M1 is compatible with Android and iOS smartphones and works with several different services when paired with the Meta smartphone app.
The Meta M1 is now available for pre-order and will begin shipping in September. Pricing starts at $249, which will get you a watch with a stainless steel case and black, white or red rubber band. Stepping up to $299 will get you a stainless steel case and black leather band, and ponying up $349 will net you a stainless steel case and matching stainless band.
If you’d prefer something a bit more limited edition, Meta is also offering watches with black and rose gold cases. The black stainless steel model is available for $399 with a brown leather band or $449 with a black stainless band. Meanwhile, the rose gold-plated case with a blue crocodile leather band is $399.
Meta may not be as well-known in the mainstream as Pebble, but the company has been around in the smartwatch game for a while and even pushed its MetaWatch Strata into Best Buy a while back. This new Meta M1 looks like a classy, well-designed product, and its nice to see iOS and Android support included. The pricing for the more premium models might be a bit much for some, but if you’re in the hunt for a smartwatch that doesn’t look like a nerdy piece of tech, the premium may be worth it.
What do you all think of the Meta M1? Are any of you thinking about pre-ordering?
