Apple today announced new iPhones that are for the first time capable of charging wirelessly. The company has adopted the Qi wireless charging standard for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. These new smartphones, which have glass rear panels, can charge on any Qi-compatible charging pad. Moreover, Apple showed off a forthcoming charging pad called AirPower that will be capable of charging an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and EarPods all at the same time. The AirPower mat is based on the Qi standard, but Apple has adapted it to handle charging multiple devices at once. Apple said it will work with the Wireless Power Consortium to help others adopt the multi-device Qi technology. The AirPower charging mat won't arrive until some point in 2018.
